Service Description

Game development is a creative outlet for programmers and designers alike and requires creativity and imagination. This course will teach game design using a professional game engine, preparing students to work with industry-standard applications and skills. Unity is a 3D and 2D game engine that is used by professionals in the game development industry. It has been used to produce award-winning games such as Ori and the Blind Forest, Angry Birds, Pokemon Go and Hearthstone. Games made in Unity are powered by the simple, yet powerful, programming language C#. Although Unity can be used as both a 3D and a 2D game engine, this course will teach students how to create 2D games using the engine, including basic C# programming, object creation and level design. This course is not designed to be programming heavy and focuses more on the development of a game. However, it is recommended that students understand the foundation of logic to be able to enrol in this course. By the end of the course, students will not only know how to use the engine but will have finished creating their own unique Pong and Space Shooter games. Students must have some basic experience with a programming language before to take this class. This may include Python, Java, JavaScript, C, C++, Swift or others. This course will assume students understand the fundamentals of logic and code, as it will not teach it to students. Students are NOT required to understand C#, which will be taught, but logic will not be. IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to ensure that we place all students in the correct class of the appropriate level, we require all students to complete the following quiz. Only once you have received an email back from the Intelligent Futures team should you register your student in the class. Notification of acceptance will occur within 2 business days of the quiz filling. The acceptance is purely based on skill/experience and age range and no other factors.
